What is Emotional Labour, Really?

All about emotions, emotional labour and culture.

The emotional culture of neoliberal and capitalist society is based in competition, precarity, and scarcity which thus leads to anger and anxiety which must be regulated at the individual-level (i.e., emotion work and emotional labour). This emotional culture is also one of restricting expression (and sensing) of anger.

[ID: Beige background, illustrated orange birds framing blue text which reads: "Emotional labour, Emotional labour is the professional expectation that a worker will manage their own feelings and privilege those of their client. Emotional labour is generally shaped and expected based on the emotional culture of an organization. Emotional cultures (or feeling rules) are the group expectations and rules about which emotions can(not) be expressed in the group. End of description.]
